Giants to retire Michael Strahan's No. 92 jersey

The New York Giants announced in June that they are inducting two-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Eli Manning into their Ring of Honor and retiring his No. 10 jersey during a halftime ceremony on Sept. 26.

One of Manning's former teammates will also be honored during the upcoming season.

Newsday's Tom Rock tweeted Monday that the Giants will retire the No. 92 jersey that once belonged to New York all-time great pass-rusher and Hall of Famer Michael Strahan on a to-be-announced date.

Strahan earned seven Pro Bowl nods and was a four-time First-Team All-Pro during his career that spanned from 1993 through the 2007 regular season and Super Bowl XLII, where the Giants toppled the previously unbeaten New England Patriots. During the 2001 campaign, he famously set the official record for most sacks in a season with 22.5 after Green Bay Packers quarterback and Hall of Famer Brett Favre allegedly took a dive:

Strahan won Defensive Player of the Year that season for his efforts.

According to Pro Football Reference, Strahan is second in Giants franchise history with 141.5 career sacks. Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor sits atop that category with 142 total quarterback takedowns.

Strahan was enshrined in Canton in 2014.
