Hamilton Tiger-Cats Hint at 2025 Draft Selection
© Gerry Angus-Imagn Images

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are in a decent situation regarding the quarterback position. In the CFL, it is a lot more difficult to develop solid quarterbacks and even more challenging to establish Canadian signal callers due to the sheer lack of numbers.

The Tabbies currently have one of the most intriguing quarterback rooms in the CFL as Grey Cup champion and CFL veteran Bo Levi Mitchell is the team's starter. Taulia Tagovailoa, the brother of Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, is backing him up.

Mitchell and Tagovailoa are not guaranteed roster spots on opening day. However, there is a solid chance. The one issue that Hamilton may be looking at is the possibility of bringing a Canadian into the mix for ratio purposes.

After being asked if he thought this upcoming year of Canadian QBs could be the best that the CFL has ever seen, Ti-Cats general manager Ted Goveia told 3 Down Nation, “I think the argument could be made for sure that it’s the best class. Teams are throwing the ball, a lot of U Sports teams are running a lot of CFL concepts, so these players are better acclimated coming out.”

He continued by adding, “I’ve been impressed across the board, looking at a number of quarterbacks, including some of the guys that aren’t even the higher profile guys, it’s a good group.”

Head coach Scott Milanovich agreed: “I don’t have as many years in the league as Teddy, but it’s the best one I’ve seen thus far.”

It’s not a guarantee that the Tiger-Cats will draft a quarterback, as it’s possible that Mitchell may still be a great QB. However, he is aging, and Father Time is undefeated. Tagovailoa is not as polished as he could be, and the rest of the quarterbacks on the roster may not have long shelf lives in the CFL.

The 2025 CFL Draft and Global Draft are scheduled for April 29. The Tiger-Cats have the second pick.

Draft guru explains why this player is the 'safest pick' for Raiders in NFL Draft

Barring what would be at least somewhat of a surprising development, it appears the Las Vegas Raiders will have an opportunity to make Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty the sixth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft on the night of April 24. During a recent chat with Michael Grant of Awful Announcing, ESPN draft guru Matt Miller shared why he views Jeanty as the "safest pick" in this year's player-selection process. "He is scheme-versatile and fluid," Miller said about Jeanty. "You could play him in any offense. He’s going to be explosive. He has shown his ability as a receiver out in the backfield. And then as a runner, he’s second to none, especially in this year’s class with his vision, contact balance and all the different things he brings to the table." NFL Media's Lance Zierlein has Jeanty, the consensus top running back in this year's class, ranked as the draft's highest-graded overall prospect. In his final prospect rankings, ESPN's Field Yates listed Jeanty as the draft's fourth-best player. "No running back in this class comes close to his ability to make defenders miss in the hole, run through tackles, make decisive cuts and affect the passing game," Yates said about Jeanty. "We can debate the merits of taking a back early, but Jeanty is a top-five prospect on talent alone." The Athletic's Austin Mock is among those who have argued that the Raiders taking Jeanty with pick No. 6 "would be a mistake" because a team coming off a 4-13 season should instead want to use that asset to strengthen a premium position. Nevertheless, an NFC West national scout predicted that the Raiders will take Jeanty in a mock draft produced by Miller that was published on Thursday. "I seriously considered going wide receiver here because of the needs, but I can't ignore the value of Jeanty," the scout explained. "He might be the best player in the class, and you know exactly what you're getting with him." As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Raiders as the betting favorites at -110 odds to be the team that drafts Jeanty. For what it's worth, Dane Brugler of The Athletic thinks the Jacksonville Jaguars could spoil things for the Raiders by grabbing Jeanty with the fifth pick.

Former NASCAR champ announces divorce from wife, who allegedly has ties to Jeffrey Epstein

Brian Vickers won the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship in 2003. A year later, he joined Hendrick Motorsports as a full-time driver, where he recorded four top-10s and finished 25th in the final season standings. In 2006, the then-22-year-old scored his first Cup victory in the fall race at Talladega. Over the next decade, he achieved some success, including a pair of wins at Michigan in 2009 and New Hampshire in 2013. In between those trips to Victory Lane, Vickers began experiencing health problems with blood clots in his legs and near his lungs. Those issues would limit his track time, and he ran his last full-time season in 2014. He ran part-time and a total of seven races in 2015 and 2016. Vickers' life off the track took an interesting turn in 2013 when he married Sarah Kellen. She was the former assistant of Jeffrey Epstein and has been named in lawsuits and accused of being the “lieutenant” who helped Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell procure hundreds of girls. Vickers and his wife lived in a three-bedroom, $10 million penthouse of the Mercer Greene building in New York City, where Vickers was president of the condo board. Since 2022, Vickers has remained silent on social media. His last post on X came in March of that year. On Monday, he broke that silence with a post on X that included a photo of a sign that said: “Delete that old version of me in your head, it expired.” He then wrote: “Hey Friends, After ten years of marriage and five years under a rock on social media I’m coming out of digital hiding to share some heavy news: Sarah and I are getting divorced. “I’m grateful for the time we shared – both the joyous moments and the difficult ones. I’m grateful for the learning. I’m grateful for the growth. Now that the dust has settled, I’m more grateful than ever for the clarity. “Here’s the good news: You can expect a bit more action out of me in the coming months. I’m back on my digital game and ready to keep ya’ll in the loop again. (Keep an eye out for some creative moves, too.) “Sending love and grace, Brian Vickers.”

Dodgers RHP Bobby Miller optioned after rough start

The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned right-hander Bobby Miller to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, one day after he was rocked for six runs over three innings in his season debut. The Dodgers, who are off Thursday, did not announce a corresponding move. Miller did not make the Dodgers' Opening Day roster after he was struck in the head by a line drive during his first spring training start, delaying his preparations for the season. He had three minor league outings before being called up to face the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Staked to a 7-1 lead in the first inning, Miller nearly gave up the entire advantage when he was tagged for five runs in the third inning, including a grand slam from Michael Toglia. The Dodgers won the game 8-7. Projected for a breakout season in 2024, Miller instead went 2-4 with an 8.52 ERA in 13 starts. In parts of three seasons with the Dodgers, he is 13-8 with a 5.45 ERA in 36 starts.
