HC Antonio Pierce reflects on mistakes, future with Raiders

Antonio Pierce remains the Las Vegas Raiders head coach...for now.

Pierce met with local reporters at the team's headquarters Monday morning in Henderson, Nevada as he plans to meet with owner Mark Davis and talk about the future. Pierce was asked about his future with the Raiders.

"I haven't been told anything different," Pierce said. "It's only coming from the outside. It's not inside the building, so to me there's nothing to clean up until I hear from inside the building."

Pierce completed his first season as the head with a 4-13 record following a 34-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

After the game, players voiced their support for Pierce.

The Raiders do have a lot of fixing to do. Whether Pierce is part of that remains to be seen, but he was asked what the team needs to do to get better.

"Gotta get better players," he said. "Gotta coach better. Got to do a lot of things better when you only win four games."

After starting 2-2, the Raiders lost 10 straight before picking up a 19-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 22. The season never got right and it started when the team announced Gardner Minshew as the starting quarterback.

Pierce admitted starting Minshew was a mistake and regrets that decision instead of making Aidan O'Connell the starter. He said he wished he would've gone with his "gut" rather than second guessing himself.

It is up to Davis to decide what to do with his head coaching job and whether he'll give Pierce another shot.

At least Pierce owned up to his mistakes Monday morning, calling it a "lesson learned."
