Inside Jaws’ Shocking Take on Jayden

The bitter rivalry between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles resumes Thursday night with the NFC East lead on the line. The winner of the Week 10 showdown will have the inside track to the division championship and a return to the NFL playoffs.

There is bitterness. There is history. There is ... respect? Even adulation?

During his 17-year playing career and additional decade involved in the NFL as an ESPN analyst, Ron Jaworski has seen his share of exciting rookie quarterbacks. He had a front-row seat to the dynamic debuts of Philly's Donovan McNabb in 1999 and Washington's Robert Griffin III in 2012.

But none of them - or anyone before or after - has impressed Jaworski like Commanders' rookie Jayden Daniels.

"I don't want to overblow what I am going to say, but I will," Jaworski said. "He's the best rookie quarterback I have ever seen. I've seen a lot of them. The guy has been absolutely phenomenal."

Jaworski played for the Eagles from 1977-86, started Super Bowl XV and is a member of the team's Hall of Fame.

In staking his early claim to Rookie of the Year, Daniels is completing 69 percent of his passes for nine touchdowns and only two interceptions, and rushed for 464 yards and another four scores. Griffin won Rookie of the Year 12 years ago after completing 65 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns to only five interceptions, 815 yards rushing and seven scores.

The 7-3 Commanders are 4-point underdogs to the 7-2 Eagles. It was exactly two years that Washington - then quarterbacked by Taylor Heinicke - upset the 8-0 Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
