Jamien Sherwood knows how to celebrate. The linebacker just signed a $45 million contract with the New York Jets and decided to hit up NYC to celebrate with friends at the Benjamin Prime to commemorate his big win according to TMZ.
The outlet reports that the Jets linebacker stayed at the restaurant with his friends for about two hours and tipped the waiting staff very well.
Sherwood has a lot to celebrate as his three-year $45 million contract comes with $30 million guaranteed. The Florida native was selected in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft by the New York Jets. Last year, Sherwood was a backup but after C.J. Mosley had a neck injury in the Week 8 pregame warmups, and suffered a toe injury as well, Sherwood showed the Jets how valuable of a player he really is. Last season, Sherwood had 46 solo tackles, 89 assists and 2.5 sacks. In turn, the Jets ended up releasing Mosley.
Sherwood was a free agent this offseason but recently revealed why he decided to re-sign with the Jets.
“It wouldn’t feel right to me to go somewhere else. This is where I’ve made a home, and this is where I would like to continue to be for the rest of my career,” Sherwood said, via Paul Andrew Esden of The Score 1260.

The Jets have some gains this season since they will be taking Justin Fields from the Steelers as he will be replacing four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers on the roster. Fields was previously with the Pittsburgh Steelers and started as quarterback for six games before Russell Wilson returned from his calf injury. Fields’ decision to go to the Jets seems like a no-brainer considering what the Steelers decided to offer him.
“Talked to multiple personnel execs who expressed zero surprise at giving Justin Fields two year-$40M deal. He’s smart, a hard worker and athletic enough to run. coaches very tangibly improved his footwork and taught him how to see the field better. I’m told Steelers’ offer didn’t guarantee any money after first year,” CBS sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala wrote on X.
Last month, the Jets met with Rodgers to let him know that they will not have him return.
“I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets,” said Chairman Woody Johnson in a statement released by the team. “His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career. From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next.”
Rodgers joined the Jets in 2023 and suffered from a torn Achilles tendon on September 11, 2023 in the Jets game against the Buffalo Bills. During his time on the Jets, he scored 28 TD passes, which ranks him third on the Jets’ single-season list in franchise history behind Ryan Fitzpatrick (31-2015) and Vinny Testaverde (29-1998). He also had 3,897 passing yards and 11 interceptions.

Texans Linked to Former Pro Bowl WR to Replace Stefon Diggs
The Houston Texans officially lost Stefon Diggs earlier this week, as the star wide receiver signed a three-year contract with the New England Patriots. Will the Texans counter with a move of their own? Houston has already added a couple of receivers this offseason, swinging a trade for Christian Kirk and then signing Justin Watson in free agency. However, the Texans could still use some insurance at the position, especially with Tank Dell likely set to miss all of 2025. The problem is that Houston's remaining options on the open market are limited, so it may have to turn to the NFL Draft for a solution. However, Cody Stoots of Houston Football feels that there is one more intriguing wide out left for the Texans to consider: Tyler Lockett. "If they aren’t done I would like to see a veteran outside receiver. The name I have in mind is Tyler Lockett," Stoots told Battle Red Blog. "He wouldn’t fully block a rookie the Texans select in the draft but would allow that player to come along at a modest pace. Lockett also isn’t a long-term investment. I do feel like they’re done now though and there aren’t many options where Houston actually could use." Lockett spent the first 10 years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, making one Pro Bowl appearance while posting four 1,000-yard campaigns along the way. This past season, he caught 49 passes for 600 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He was released shortly before free agency. Now 32 years old, Lockett certainly isn't the player he once was, but he would at least provide C.J. Stroud with a sure-handed veteran, particularly on short and intermediate throws.
New York Yankees make concerning decision with top prospect
New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones is widely viewed as one of the most intriguing prospects in all of baseball, and heading into last year, he was ranked the 33rd-best prospect in the majors by Baseball Prospectus. However, thanks to a rather rough 2024 campaign, Jones’ stock has dipped, and he is no longer even considered a top-100 prospect. That doesn’t necessarily mean he is a bust, but there is some concern surrounding his plate discipline. After all, Jones struck out a hefty 200 times across 544 plate appearances at Double-A Somerset last season, slashing a disappointing .259/.336/.452 with 17 home runs and 78 RBI. Apparently, the Yankees don’t feel all too confident in Jones’ ability to consistently handle Triple-A pitching just yet, as they have started him at Double-A again this year, via Gary Phillips of The New York Daily News. At 6-foot-7, 235 pounds, Jones is every bit as physically imposing as Aaron Judge and has Yankees fans dreaming of an outfield triumvirate that also includes Jasson Dominguez. However, the Bronx faithful will obviously have to wait for Jones, who has yet to register a single Triple-A at-bat since entering New York’s system three years ago. The Vanderbilt product was selected by the Yanks with the 25th overall pick of the 2022 MLB Draft and owns a lifetime .270/.344/.456 slashline over 1,185 trips to the dish. Right now, the Yankees’ outfield is being handled by Judge, Dominguez and Cody Bellinger, with Trent Grisham serving as the fourth option, so they certainly don’t need Jones right now. That being said, Jones does figure to be a part of New York’s outfield in the near future and could ultimately be called up at some point in 2025. Before that happens, though, Jones will need to conquer his strikeout demons at Double-A, which could be the determining factor in his career trajectory.
Coco Gauff's reign as No. 1 U.S. tennis star in danger
World No. 3 Coco Gauff has been the top-ranked tennis player from the United States — male or female — for nearly two years. All that could change on Saturday when No. 4 Jessica Pegula clashes against No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Miami Open. A win would allow Pegula to surpass Gauff in the WTA rankings and crown her as the new U.S. No. 1 in the tennis world. Pegula pulled off an impressive semifinal victory over Alex Eala on Thursday, winning in three sets after dropping a first-set tiebreaker to the Filipino breakout star. The win meant she exercised her Miami Open demons after previous semi-final defeats in 2022 and 2023 and a quarterfinal loss to Anastasia Potapova a year ago. The 31-year-old American has been on a stellar run recently. After reaching the 2024 U.S. Open final, her first taste of a major final, she followed it up with a finals appearance in Adelaide and a WTA250 title in Austin, Texas. Entering the Miami Open, she had 5,361 WTA points, trailing Gauff (6,063) and leading Madison Keys (5,0004) in a three-way battle for the U.S. No. 1. With Gauff and Keys suffering early exits and Pegula reaching the final, the latter is at 5,796 points in the WTA Live Rankings. A win over Sabalenka would give her 6,146 points, enough to surpass Gauff. A bad sign for U.S. tennis? Pegula's rise would be a feel-good story for U.S. tennis, but it would be equally a poor reflection of the country's younger stars. At the Australian Open, too, fans celebrated journeywoman Keys finally winning a major but lamented the early exits of Gauff, 21, Emma Navarro, 23, and Ashlyn Krueger, 20, from the slam. There's no other way to slice it, but losing the U.S. No. 1 status would be a devastating blow for Gauff. The 21-year-old has failed to advance past the quarterfinals at any event this season, suffering fourth-round exits at Indian Wells and Miami and second-round losses at Dubai and Qatar. Her 2024 was also a letdown, leading to her firing her coaching staff, changing her service stance and tinkering with other aspects of her game. Gauff has become increasingly vulnerable and doesn't exude the dominant energy she did en route to her 2023 U.S. Open win. Amid Gauff's subpar run, Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams' former coach, recently sounded the alarm bells. Stubbs believes Gauff may lack the mental capacity to endure tough three-set battles and that "her technique fails under pressure." Gauff will next be seen in action at next week's Charleston Open.
Pittsburgh Pirates' Paul Skenes makes baseball history with Opening Day start
Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes made baseball history on Thursday with his Opening Day start at the Miami Marlins. Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com: Skenes, the reigning National League Rookie of the Year, put together an incredible season in 2024, going 11-3 with a 1.96 ERA. He also started the All-Star Game for the National League and was a top-three finalist for the National League Cy Young Award. He struck out 170 batters in 133.0 innings. He continued the strong start to his career on Thursday, tossing 5.1 innings against the Marlins. He surrendered two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out seven. Skenes makes up a solid top-of-the-rotation for the Pirates along with Jared Jones and Mitch Keller. However, Jones is on the injured list with an elbow problem. Eventually, Skenes will pair with top prospect Bubba Chandler, who is beginning the year in the minor leagues but could be up soon. The Pirates finished last in the National League Central last season, but with this pitching depth and the spark from Oneil Cruz, there is some optimism in Pittsburgh once again. The Pirates lost to the Marlins, 5-4. The two teams play again Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
