Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gave an update on the contract situation with star pass rusher Micah Parsons. While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Jones said he’s not concerned about getting the contract done as soon as possible.

“I don’t view it as urgent at all,” Parsons said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. And when asked about waiting to get the Parsons contract done, Jerry Jones said, “I’d rather pay more and get it right.”

Jones’ comments come after Clarence Hill of All City DLLS reported that the Cowboys offered Micah Parsons a contract that would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The contract has not been signed because Jones and Parsons talked about the deal with Parsons’ agent.

Micah Parsons reveals his goals for the offseason

It looks like Parsons will resign with the Cowboys, and the team is in no rush to get the deal done. Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie contract (fifth-year option) and has emerged as one of the best defensive players in the NFL. He won the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, has made the Pro Bowl four times and has been named to the All-Pro Team three times.

Last month, Parsons talked about some of the things he wants to accomplish during the offseason. “I wanna get a little stronger,” he said, per the Cowboys’ official website. “I get a little more powerful. There are some things that I wanna work on that I’m implementing into my offseason program. I always try to ask some new things, so I’m gonna try to bring back a little bit more power.”

The Cowboys have a new coaching staff for the 2025 season, which means Parsons and the rest of the Cowboys’ defensive players will have to learn a new scheme. “It’s just learning a new system and getting another coach’s adjustments to how I like to play, what I like to do… and implicate me,” Parsons stated. “Obviously, it is challenging with a third [defensive coordinator] and [another change] is obviously not the greatest thing in the world but, I mean, that’s part of being a pro. You’ve got to make adjustments.”
