Jets Just Made Massive Decision on 3 Contracts

The New York Jets were sitting on a "good problem to have.''

And on Monday, as expected, they solved it.

The new regime, led by general manager Darren Mougey, is picking up the fifth-year options on a trio of valued players.

The Jets came into this process having plenty of top young talent, like wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive end Jermaine Johnson.

And now it is going to stay that way.

Maybe extensions come soon as it would make a lot of sense for New York to negotiate early to set themselves up well to keep their talented young core.

But for now? New York entered the offseason with over $50 million in cap space.

And before the Jets get aggressive here and re-sign Wilson and Gardner and Johnson to long-term extensions?

They pull the trigger on the fifth-year options.

The Jets are officially picking up the fifth-year options on each of their 2022 first-round picks, Gardner ($20.1 million), Wilson ($16.8 mil) and Johnson ($13.4 mil).

The good news? Gardner and Wilson, in particular, are on the record as wanting to stay here as part of the build.

"My mental wasn't all the way there in terms of my positivity, like it should have been," Gardner said of last year. "I could have improved when it came to that. I definitely want to be a part of the solution when it comes to turning this organization around, getting us to the playoffs and getting to the Super Bowl. So, I'm definitely going to be better ...

"Now I realize adversity is a gift.''

So is a monster contract ... and three of them might be coming soon.
