How will the New York Jets replace a four-time MVP like Aaron Rodgers? By drafting the best quarterback prospect in college football, apparently.
Not only does Pro Football Focus rank Miami’s Cam Ward as the top quarterback available in the 2025 NFL Draft, but PFF’s Jordan Plocher believes the Jets will get him in his latest mock draft. That could be a stretch considering teams with earlier picks like the Titans, Giants and Raiders also need a quarterback, but we’ll play along.
Assuming Ward does last until pick No. 7, New York would be getting a player who threw for 6,966 yards and 48 touchdowns in two years with Washington State and set single-season marks for touchdowns (39), yards (4,313) and completion percentage (67.2) with Miami last year.

Of course, that doesn’t include Ward's first two years at the University of the Incarnate Word, a Division I program where he set career records in passing yards (6,908) and touchdowns (71) with single-game records of 610 yards and seven scores.
At 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, Ward’s size won’t be an issue in the NFL and neither will his arm strength. PFF’s Mike Akridge thinks Ward has one of the best arms in football and credits his ability to throw with velocity for allowing him to fit the ball into tight windows.
He’s also impressed with Ward’s ability to work through progressions and throw with anticipation.
"He quickly understands the looks defenses are giving him and plays on time," Akridge says, "which led to him having the highest clean pocket PFF grade among draft-eligible quarterbacks."
If New York can’t land Ward or Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the draft as many experts believe, it could always look to add a veteran free agent like Minnesota’s Sam Darnold or make a move for Atlanta’s Kirk Cousins.
Otherwise, Tyrod Taylor may have to serve as a bridge quarterback next season. With 58 starts in 14 NFL seasons, Taylor is widely considered the best backup quarterback in football. That said, Ward would be a much better option for a Jets team looking to make a fresh start under new head coach Aaron Glenn. That is if the QB is available.
