Jets' Offseason Oddly Described With 1 Word
Barry Reeger-Imagn Images

The new regime for the New York Jets had a mountain of work to do in order to get the franchise past the two failed seasons under Aaron Rodgers and the poor front office decisions that plagued them.

General manager Darren Mougey and new head coach Aaron Glenn have slowly been making moves to get the franchise to a position where the rebuild can begin to take shape.

Rodgers, D.J. Reed, and Davante Adams are out, and Justin Fields, Jamien Sherwood, Brandon Stephens, and Andre Cisco are in, as New York is looking at a transition year in Glenn's first season in charge.

So depending how you look at it, the Jets are doing what they can to get through the mess that the franchise created in the past couple of seasons.

Yet Bleacher Report, in describing the Jets' offseason in one word, doesn't seem to think much will change under Glenn and Mougey in Year 1, labeling it "sad."

"It's simply the end of an era that wasn't good to begin with; the beginning of a rebuild from something that was never properly built," Bleacher Report writes. "And barring a sudden emergence from Justin Fields, it's hard to see light at the end of the tunnel for the Jets."

Now, that's a glass-half-empty approach, and while it is subjective, the Jets' offseason has been solid enough that at least the fans can see the direction the franchise is going.

Will Fields be a world-beater? No, but he presents an interesting option for the Jets and if he hits, great, if not, the franchise moves on to attack the quarterback position in 2026.

Plus, with Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall as his main weapons, along with a solid offensive line, yes, more needs to come in, but he at least has something to work with.

Defensively, the Jets weren't terrible last season, ranking 20th for points allowed (23.3 p/g), but there is hope that the unit can improve under Steve Wilks.

So, depending on how you view it, yes, the Jets' offseason could be seen as underwhelming, but conversely, the moves made could make the offseason a breath of fresh air for a franchise that desperately needs a change.

But sad? We hardly think so.
