The 2025 NFL Draft is here for the Kansas City Chiefs and the rest of the National Football League. The Chiefs are looking to continue their recent run of having good draft classes. This draft just seems like the most important for the Chiefs in their franchise because of the players they lost this offseason in free agency and the way the season ended for them last year.
The Chiefs will look to find the right players once again who will come in and be ready to compete for Super Bowls and be the best players they can, and buy into what the Chiefs are doing both on and off the field.
One area the Chiefs need to address in this draft is in the secondary, mostly at cornerback. The Chiefs have one side shut down with cornerback Trent McDuffie, but the other side of the defense was a problem for the Chiefs. The opposite side of McDuffie was the side most defenses will attack. The draft is a place where the Chiefs can improve the cornerback position.
One last sleeper pick for the Chiefs is a talented cornerback out of the University of Southern California, Jaylin Smith. Smith is a very talented cornerback who has tremendous upside. Not enough people are talking about Smith, and if it is the same way for the teams, the Chiefs can get another steal at the cornerback position in the draft.
"Three-year starter with measurables and ball production that could leave teams lukewarm on his NFL prospects. Smith plays with a narrow backpedal, glitchy transitions and sluggish closing burst from off-man coverage, but he is much clingier from press-man. He might not have the play strength, length, or top-end speed to be reliable on an island outside, though. The 2024 tape was better, and he does offer some inside/outside flexibility, but he might be fighting for a roster spot throughout his career," said NFL analyst Lance Zierlein.
The Chiefs would be getting a cornerback who will be ready to start in his rookie season, and would also like to learn from defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and McDuffie. Smith has Pro Bowl potential in the NFL, and the Chiefs can help him get there.
