The Detroit Lions are taking on the Buffalo Bills, and things are not going well. Detroit fell behind 14-0 early in the game. And at one point, they trailed 35-14. At this time, the score is 45-28 midway through the fourth quarter. But the Lions are without standout defensive tackle Alim McNeill due to injury.
McNeill was visibly hurt after a defensive stop in the third quarter. Trainers came out to check on the Detroit star, who was clearly frustrated as he walked to the sideline. Eventually, the team received unfortunate news. Detroit ruled McNeill out for the remainder of this Week 15 clash against the Bills with a knee injury.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time McNeill has gone down with an injury. In fact, he left Detroit’s game in Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers with a head injury. The Lions had an extended period of time off following their 34-31 win last week, giving McNeill time to recover for Sunday’s game.
The Lions have dealt with significant injury issues over the last few weeks. Detroit did get some of their stars back onto the field for this game against Buffalo. However, they have also lost key pieces. The Lions also ruled out defensive backs Khalil Dorsey and Carlton Davis on Sunday evening.
The Lions are fighting for the top seed in the NFC ahead of the playoffs next month. Detroit’s main competition is the Philadelphia Eagles. At this time, the Eagles are beating the Pittsburgh Steelers with a little less than three minutes remaining. Philadelphia is 11-2 on the season. A win and Detroit loss would give the teams matching 12-2 records.
The Lions appeared headed for their first loss since Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. More important at this time, however, is the health of players such as Alim McNeill. Hopefully, none of the injuries suffered by Detroit players on Sunday are significant or season-ending.
