Super Bowl LIX sits like liver and onions in Kansas City. Patrick Mahomes can’t wait for his next meal.

You have that bad taste in your mouth from the last time you stepped on the football field,” Mahomes said Wednesday as the Chiefs continue the first week of their offseason program. “And you have to hear about it all offseason. It gives you the push that you want to go out there and be better and show what we’re really about.”

They’re about to add a host of draft choices, but before Kansas City picks late in Thursday night’s first round, Mahomes wants to begin the process of turning his words into actions. His mindset continues to focus on stretching the field.

“There were opportunities in games for deep shots that I either didn’t take or we missed barely. If we can get back to hitting some of those throws, we preached about this last season, it opens up the rest of the offense. That helps the run game, that helps the medium pass game, everything.”

Everything is a great way to describe what Mahomes will have in his huddle this year compared to last year. Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown and Isiah Pacheco are all back and healthy. Travis Kelce is just as hungry to erase the bad taste from the Super Bowl loss. And along with second-year speedster, Xavier Worthy, the Chiefs are loaded for another run.

If they can solidify their offensive line, expect Kansas City to do what they’ve done since Andy Reid became head coach in 2013: Win a lot of games.

The Chiefs also re-signed running back Kareem Hunt and wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Skyy Moore is back, too. And, Kansas City added potentially a surprise weapon in running back Elijah Mitchell, who signed as an unrestricted free agent.

“The goal is to try to build on it,” Mahomes added, “and get even better and try to get back to some of the explosive passing plays we’ve done in years past.”

With eight overall selections in this weekend’s draft, including four of the first 95, Kansas City could bolster its offensive line, add another tight end or wide receiver, or draft a player like running back Treyveon Henderson, whom they reportedly interviewed again remotely on Tuesday.

Or, Kansas City could do all of the above.
