Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is back with the team for the 2025 season after some tough contract negotiations during the offseason.
Things got a bit dicey at times since other teams were allowed to talk with Stafford, but in the end, his heart was with the Rams, and he didn't want to leave.
He's 37, meaning that he's in the back nine of his career. He is still playing at a high level, but the Rams could still draft a young quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft to sit behind him this year.
Stafford was asked about that possibility and confirmed that he'd welcome a new quarterback with open arms if the Rams take one. He would also try to teach him as much as possible.
“If a quarterback comes along and they feel the need to take him, we’ll welcome him with open arms and try to teach him as much as I possibly can," Stafford said (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk).
The Rams are in it to win a Super Bowl in 2025, but they still have to have an eye for the future since Stafford won't be their quarterback forever. They could take a quarterback during the second or third day of the draft, even though this class isn't as deep as last year's class.
There might only be one or two quarterbacks that get selected in the first round of the draft on Thursday. The Rams have too many needs to go with a quarterback first with the No. 26 overall pick.
The Rams got to the NFC divisional round of the playoffs last season and were close to knocking out the Philadelphia Eagles before their comeback attempt fell short.
The 2025 NFL Draft will start this Thursday and go until Saturday.
