The right words to describe the depravity of a life gone too soon do not exist. On Saturday, LSU receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead in his car of an apparent suicide. He was 24 years old.
Lacy was days away from finding out his NFL fate, a matter complicated by a car crash that killed a 78-year-old man. The receiver was charged with negligent homicide, and evidence for the case was supposed to start mere hours later on Monday.
Lacy won’t get to defend himself in court, redeem himself, or lean on his friends and family through his troubles. His death shook the football world, leaving the LSU community to mourn the loss of a student, teammate, and friend.
New York Giants star receiver Malik Nabers delivered a heartbreaking tribute to Lacy on his Instagram, written beneath a slideshow of memories captured between the two.
“Pain. Numb. Sad. Sorrowful. Downcast. Hurt. Broken. Devastated. Empty. Miserable . So this how it feels huh!! To lose a part of yo heart. Damn you loved unconditionally❤️❤️. You put a smile on everyone’s face ig we forgot to give you the same smile. When we had that talk before dat game I made history, I realized we was twins across Louisiana tryna get it the same way Damn man I just gave u the tightest hug ever when I saw u bruh why you ain’t call leek brudda, yk I had you bruh whatever u needed!!
“Dude ya (expletive) hurt me bruh!!! This the first day of my life I felt the world go by slower then it ever did I can play back every memory in my head and you saying I ain’t gone be able to (joke) wit ya nomo??!!! WHAT? You serious 2?? #dontplay2.”
Nabers and Lacy spent two years as LSU teammates, 2022 and 2023. Nabers, of course, was the sixth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and burst onto the scene as a rookie, establishing himself as a superstar and the next elite receiver from the nation’s most prominent receiver factory.
Lacy may have been next.
Former LSU greats Ja’Marr Chase and Odell Beckham Jr. joined Nabers in sharing their sorrow on social media.
