New Details Emerge About Aaron Rodgers’ Visit With Steelers

It appears that former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to play in 2025 after all.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Rodgers was at the Pittsburgh Steelers facility on Friday — a sign that the four-time MVP may be inclined to end his free agency and put the many questions about his NFL future to bed.

The Steelers have been the rumored front-runner for Rodgers for weeks, though the New York Giants are also believed to be in the mix as well after NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed on Thursday that the Minnesota Vikings—the team Rodgers reportedly preferred to play for—had no interest in bringing Rodgers in.

Though it’s likely Rodgers leaves Pittsburgh without a deal signed, fans at least have some idea of what transpired in his meeting with the Steelers thanks to SI.com’s Albert Breer.

“Aaron Rodgers met today with Steelers GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin and some of Tomlin’s coaches,” Breer wrote. “Tomlin and the staff spend a lot of time on the road at pro days this time of year, so it is significant that they’re doing this.”

Tomlin has long been a Rodgers supporter and the main proponent why many believe Rodgers will ultimately sign with the Steelers.

Though most of the big NFL insiders were reporting that Rodgers isn’t likely to sign a contract on Friday after his visit, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini hinted the two sides could potentially agree to the structure of a deal while Rodgers is in town.

“Pittsburgh has kept its offer open to the four-time MVP, and one source says ‘it’s possible an agreement is reached today,’” Russini reported.

Rodgers had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career with the Jets in 2024, passing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading New York to a 5-12 record. His 90.5 passer rating was also the lowest of his career in any season in which he started 16 or more games.

However, many believe Rodgers would be an upgrade over last year’s starter, Russell Wilson, who threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 11 games and went 6-6 as the starter, including the playoffs.
