This weekend is the NFL Draft. Next up for the league is its annual schedule release.
Give the NFL credit, it has managed to make almost every thing it does a big deal. Schedule releases are always anticipated, no matter the sport or league, but the NFL turns its unveiling into a major event, with games leaking out ahead of time and television specials breaking everything down.
During the early portion of Thursday's first round of the NFL Draft, the league announced that the 2025 schedule will be released on Wednesday, May 14.
"We interrupt this Draft for an important announcement: 2025 NFL Schedule Release. Wednesday May 14," the league tweeted.
Of course, there are aspects to next year's schedule that we already know about. By virtue of being the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles will host the opening game of the season at home on Thursday, Sept. 4.
We also know the Los Angeles Chargers will host the second annual game in Brazil on Friday, Sept. 5. That's the first of several international games for the NFL in 2025, with the Cleveland Browns, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars all "hosting" games in London.
Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts are the designated home team for a game in Germany, with the Miami Dolphins serving as the home team for the NFL's inaugural game in Madrid, Spain and the Pittsburgh Steelers "hosting" the first-ever game in Dublin, Ireland.
There will be a game in Melbourne, Australia in 2026, but that can wait a while.
As always, the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys will host games on Thanksgiving Day, and there should be a third game on the docket at night.
The NFL is also continuing its recent Christmas tradition, with the Kansas City Chiefs reportedly lobbying to be featured.
We will have this all sorted out in less than three weeks.
