The Kansas City Chiefs will have eight total draft picks for the upcoming NFL draft in less than a week. After having one pick in each of the first four rounds, they won't make another selection until the seventh round, where they'll have three draft picks at their disposal.

The Chiefs will have to make the most out of their draft picks if they hope to recover from their embarrassing Super Bowl loss against the Philadelphia Eagles and make it to their fourth consecutive Super Bowl.

Mike Renner is a sports writer for CBS Sports, and he released a three-round mock draft where he attempts to predict how the first two days of the NFL draft will go. He predicts the Chiefs will use their second-round pick on tight end prospect Elijah Arroyo to inject some youth into their tight end room.

The Chiefs have been linked to tight end prospects before, such as Mason Taylor, but they're usually predicted to draft him in the first round. Targeting a tight end on day two gives them the flexibility to address bigger needs in the first round, like the offensive line.

Arroyo's production went up exponentially in his final year with the Miami Hurricanes, due to the lucrative play-making skills of his college quarterback Cam Ward. He shattered all his career highs in previous years and enters the draft with a lot of momentum.

In 2024, he had 35 catches for 560 yards and seven touchdowns. His longest pass went for 74 yards, showcasing his ability to pick up speed whenever running downfield and how hard he is to take down. He finished second in total touchdowns among tight ends behind Tyler Warren, despite having significantly fewer yards than him.

Arroyo wouldn't start right away and could possibly be the third tight end on their depth chart behind Travis Kelce and Noah Gray. However, soon he'll be thrust into the starting role due to Kelce's declining play on the field.

Whenever Kelce decides to retire, the Chiefs may opt to start Gray over Arroyo, but he's younger and has more potential to be a red zone target for them. If the Chiefs draft Arroyo, I'd want him to see the field consistently early in his career to maximize his potential.
