The Green Bay Packers underperformed in 2024-25. Sure, they were a playoff team, but they limped into the NFC's No. 7 seed coming off two straight losses to divisional opponents.
Speaking of the division, the Packers went 1-5 against the rest of the NFC North. They were dominated by both the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings and they lost the final game of the season at home to the Chicago Bears in embarrassing fashion.
The Packers then went on to get largely embarrassed in the wild-card round against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was a 22-10 loss in which only the defense showed up while quarterback Jordan Love threw three interceptions.
It was a tough way to end the season for a team that came into 2024 with a ton of promise, but the Packers still do have some talented pieces and a good head coach in Matt LaFleur heading into 2025. They also have cap space.
As such, general manager Brian Gutekunst is turning up the heat a little bit. Green Bay is called "Title Town" for a reason, and the Packers are now one more season removed from their last Super Bowl.
"You always have some disappointments in the year. I think, for me, the thing that's been on my mind as we've concluded this season is we need to continue to ramp up our sense of urgency," Gutekunst said in an end of season news conference, per NFL.com. "These opportunities don't come (very often). The life of a player in the National Football League is not very long. We've got a bunch of good guys in that locker room, got a bunch of talented guys in that locker room, and yeah, I think it's time that we start competing for championships, right?"
The Packers have been "close but no cigar" since Aaron Rodgers led them to a win in Super Bowl XLV.
Gutekunst is clearly getting a bit antsy. You can bet fans in Green Bay are feeling the same way, too.
