The Green Bay Packers have a growing list of needs as free agency is about to begin in NFL free agency arrives this week.
Already missing out on the top two candidates at wide receiver in DK Metcalf and Davante Adams, Green Bay is saving its cap space for moves elsewhere. Defensive line and cornerback are areas to address.
As of Monday, March 10, center is a new area the Packers may need to shop to replace.
According to Sports Illustrated's Bill Huber, the Packers will not be re-signing three-year starting center Josh Myers.
A 2021 second-round pick, Myers was the first center taken off the board that year ahead of the board that year at No. 62 overall. Selected one pick later, Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey went on to earn first-team All-Pro honors in 2024.
Meanwhile, Myers, ranked 30th among 32 starters graded by Pro Football Focus (PFF) last season and is looking for a new job. He started 56 games in four seasons in Green Bay and had shown improvement, allowing just one sack last season.
However, the Packers appear poised to be on the search for his replacement.
A candidate for the role is starting right tackle Zach Tom.
"I was told by a couple of people within the organization, they think Zach Tom is a Pro Bowl right tackle, an All-Pro guard, and a potential Hall-of-Fame center. So there's your center," ESPN's Rob Demovsky told the "Wilde & Tausch" radio show in April 2024.
Tom has played exceptionally at right tackle since being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. In 2024, he posted an 85.8 offensive grade by PFF, which included a road-grating 87.1 run-blocking grade.
Moving Tom to center would involve finding a replacement at right tackle, which could prove more difficult.
Green Bay could opt to search for a free-agent center instead. Atlanta Falcons starter Drew Dalman and former Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowler Ryan Kelly are pending free agents.
