Patrick Mahomes' Parents Include MLB Dad, Pat Mahomes Sr.

Patrick Mahomes' parents, Pat and Randi Mahomes, and the rest of his family played a major role in the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback's success. Patrick's dad, Pat Sr., was a longtime MLB pitcher playing for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates over his 11-year pro baseball career.

Pat Sr. had a career 42-39 record with 452 strikeouts during his time as a pitcher. The Chiefs quarterback grew up in baseball clubhouses which prepared him for future NFL locker rooms.

Pat Sr. believes experiencing this at a young age helped Patrick as an NFL quarterback.

“He got really involved when I got with the Mets in ’99,” Pat Sr. told The Athletic's Dan Hayes during a Jan. 29, 2019, feature story. “From that point on, as long as I played he was always around big-league guys and in big-league clubhouses.

“He got to see what it was like to be a professional and how they go about their business. Just sucking it all in. He was with me in the World Series and there was 65,000 people in the stands. Now when he goes out and there’s big crowds like that it’s not a big deal to him. It’s like he’s just playing a game.”

Patrick also remains close with his mom Randi, who has become a regular at Chiefs games. The quarterback's parents divorced in 2006, per People.

Patrick and his wife Brittany Mahomes are now the proud parents of three children: Sterling Skye, Golden Raye and "Bronze."

Steelers lose their third free agent of the week to same team following departure of once-promising trade acquisition

The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Mike Williams from the New York Jets at the 2024 trade deadline. The move provided immediate dividends, as the Steelers won a game against the Washington Commanders thanks to a catch from Mike Williams in his first career game with the Steelers. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of his time in Pittsburgh ,and now he's headed back to where it all started... Chargers sign third former Steeler of the Week, WR Mike Williams "BREAKING: The Chargers are signing WR Mike Williams to a 1-year deal worth up to $6M as he returns to Los Angeles — where he spent the first seven years of his career, sources tell NFL on FOX. Williams is back catching passes from Justin Herbert." - Jordan Schultz, Fox Sports In case you missed the first two, Donte Jackson and Najee Harris headed to the West Coast earlier in the week. Jackson will be a bit of an acquired taste in Los Angeles and for HC Jim Harbaugh. After receiving him in a trade that sent Diontae Jackson packing, many were skeptical of trading for an often-injured corner who is smaller and slighter than what the Steelers normally covet. Najee Harris averaged less than four yards per carry during his time with the Steelers, and he never had that second gear that Pittsburgh saw at Alabama. However, Harris also never played with a good offensive line and was asked to be the bell cow for an offense that changed running schemes multiple times. And still, he reached over 1,000 yards and five-plus rushing TDs every year in Pittsburgh, all the while not missing a start, much less a game. Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh has a type at RB, and Najee Harris fits that type. A road grader with a ton of durability and power, he’s exactly what the Chargers want their lead back to look like. So it’s a move that brings Najee Harris back to his home state of California and brings the Los Angeles Chargers closer to being the offense they want to be: A smashmouth team that throws off play action. As for Mike Williams, the familiarity with the Chargers and the fact that the team still has a need at the WR position made this move easy to see coming.

Former Steelers RB Najee Harris seemingly takes shot at Pittsburgh after arriving in Los Angeles

The Pittsburgh Steelers had to say goodbye to some important players during the 2025 offseason, with one of the most notable individuals being former first-round pick Najee Harris. It became clear that the 2024 season would be the running back's last year with the Steelers after the organization declined his fifth-year option, and he ended up signing with the Los Angeles Chargers during the 2025 offseason. This was a natural landing spot for Harris, as he had a pre-existing relationship with Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and grew up on the West Coast. The back signed a one-year deal in Los Angeles, and he had his introductory press conference on Friday afternoon. The back spoke about his excitement to play for the Chargers, while also reminiscing on his time with Pittsburgh. He got a tour of the facility and was asked about it during his press conference, and the former Steeler was impressed as he compared it to what he had in Pittsburgh. "It's a great weight room first of all." Harris said. "It's all great things. There's a lot of things that they provide here that you can take advantage of. I was just telling them, 'Man, it's not like this everywhere man.' This is a special thing right here. It sort of reminds me of college at Alabama, you know, all the resources that they have. So, just getting the chance to take advantage of all this opportunity is a blessing. I was telling him, 'Y'all got a great thing going on. It's not like this everywhere.'" It is no secret that Pittsburgh's facility is outdated, and that is highlighted by the NFLPA report cards every offseason. The Steelers share a facility with a college team, and their facilities are out-classed by most college programs. Players don't play in Pittsburgh for a glamorous weight room and facility; it is more about the tradition and history of success. As the years go on, more and more players entering the NFL care about the facilities and the kind of resources an organization has, and that makes sense. Players spend a lot of their time there, and everything they need should be in one place. Clearly, this is an area the Steelers need to work on. It is also important to note that the Chargers just finished building this new facility that Harris spoke so highly of. It is a top of the line practice facility called "The Bolt", and it was completed during the 2024 offseason. The building is not even a year old, and it is probably the nicest facility in the league. The Steelers should have the goal of upgrading their facilities in the near future. It is going to start to become more of a draw for free agents as the years go on, so it would be better to get a head start now. Steelers' own players even believe facilities need to improve Every season the NFLPA surveys players on various aspects of their organizations. This includes coaching, ownership, team travel, the food, and the facilities that are used. The coaching aspect of these report cards is usually good for the Steelers, while the ownership and facilities sections are fairly rough. Pittsburgh's report card going into 2025 was pretty bleak, as the Steelers received a D for their locker room, a C+ for their training room, a C+ for their weight room, and a D in ownership. Art Rooney II can get his ownership grade up if he simply decides to invest some money into the facility to make players' everyday life a bit more enjoyable. Athletes need essential tools and equipment to recover on a day-to-day basis, and making sure things like that are taken care of should be a top priority moving forward.

Chargers Signing Mekhi Becton, Bengals' Free Agent Guard Options Dwindling

The Bengals need two starting guards and their options are dwindling. Mekhi Becton is signing a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers according to ESPN's Tim McManus. Becton was considered one of the best guards available. Couple that with the news that the Seahawks are bringing in Teven Jenkins for a visit. Guard is the Bengals' biggest weakness. There are still some quality options available, including Jenkins, but they have to get moving if they're going to add clear starting-level talent at the guard position. Other possible options include Brandon Scherff, Will Hernandez, Dalton Risner and Trystan Colon. They could also sign one of the players mentioned above, plus former first round pick Jedrick Wills. Wills was in Cleveland with current Bengals offensive line coach Scott Peters. He's spent his entire career at tackle, but the Bengals could sign him and move him to guard. That's what the Eagles did with Becton last season and it worked out well.

Stars’ Mikko Rantanen makes ‘weird’ admission on impending Colorado return

The Dallas Stars brought in right wing Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes at the trade deadline. Prior to Rantanen’s arrival in Carolina, he was a longtime member of the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche host the Stars on Sunday, a game that will be a weird one for Rantanen. “It’s going to be weird, for sure,” Rantanen said via The Athletic. “You spend 9-10 years in one organization, and you get to know the city and then change comes and then you have to go back there and play in the visitors room, so it’s going to be different. But it’s good to see all the players that I got to know over the years. It should be a fun game to play against your old friends.” Rantanen highlighted some of the similarities he sees between the Stars and the Avalanche. He added how he thinks Dallas will be a good fit for him long-term. “They play puck possession, and I think there are similarities between Dallas and Colorado,” Rantanen said. “Like I’ve said many times, I tried my best in Carolina, but one of the reasons was for me to think where I really want to play hockey the next eight years and Dallas was a better fit on the ice. Better style of play for me that’s similar to Colorado, so I think that was one decision to be made.” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer is confident in Rantanen’s ability to thrive with the team. “Guys like that in the prime of their careers just don’t get moved very often and they sure don’t get moved in the division, even though it was a roundabout way,” DeBoer said. “… Those guys just don’t become available and when they do you have to act, and (general manager) Jim Nill did and our owner (R. Thomas Gaglardi).” After things did not go as planned with the Hurricanes, Rantanen‘s fresh slate in Dallas could be exactly what his career needs.
