The New England Patriots saw an opportunity to bring in an experienced center, and they took it
After being released by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, former 2019 first-round Garrett Bradbury signed a two-year deal worth up to $12 million including $3.8 million guaranteed, with the Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
MassLive's Mark Daniels further reported that the Patriots "view Garrett Bradbury as an upgrade to what they have on the roster."
Bradbury has started in all 88 games and provides a capable and reliable presense at a position that is very important for quarterback Drake Maye.
With this move, the Patriots appear to have three out of five positions solidified on the offensive line. Morgan Moses will take over at the right tackle position, with Mike Onwenu next to him at guard. And now, Bradbury will be the team's starting center. But as for what comes after that, it's still a mystery.
The Patriots need a true starting left tackle, with some thinking they could address that in the draft by selecting LSU's Will Campbell with the fourth overall pick. However, there are still some free agents available including Cam Robinson.
Along with Bradbury, the Patriots also recently brought in veteran center/guard Wes Schweitzer on a one-year deal, and they have Cole Strange, Ben Brown, and Lecitus Smith on the roster. Towards the end of last season, Strange was preparing to move to center, but now the plan for him is unknown.
