The Las Vegas Raiders have started the process of adding to their running back room.
On Thursday, according to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Raiders signed a one-year deal with former Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert worth $2.1 million.
Mostert asserted himself as a quality running back after running for 1,012 yards and scoring 21 touchdowns, securing Pro Bowl honors. However, the Dolphins drafted De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright early in back-to-back years, leading to Mostert getting pushed out of the rotation. Despite Mostert’s advanced age (he is soon going to be 33 years old), he still has the juice to be an asset to an NFL backfield.
Even better for Mostert is Las Vegas provides him with some familiarity.
Mostert worked with Raiders offensive coordinator with the Philadelphia Eagles (2015) and San Francisco 49ers (2016). Back then, Mostert was a young player trying to carve out a role for himself in the NFL. Now, with more experience under his belt, the veteran returns to an offensive scheme where he has some clear utility.
Whether serving as the lead back or a veteran mentor, Mostert provides a spark that the Raiders lacked in their rushing attack.
