When the offseason started for the Los Angeles Rams , the future of Sean Mcvay's offensive core was up in the air. Now, it looks like everything seems to be sorted out and it all starts with their quarterbacks - Matthew Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo.
Les Snead, Sean McVay, and the Rams have decided to re-sign Jimmy Garoppolo, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
He will be on a one-year deal and is likely going to serve as a backup for Stafford once again. This now dispels any sort of notion that other squads were willing to give up a lot of cash just to land the former Super Bowl-starting signal-caller in their rosters.
Notably, the Rams also took him under their care after he got suspended due to violating the NFL's illegal substance policy. He was signed to a one-year deal in 2024 and became a serviceable quarterback when Stafford was not available.
During the 2024 season, Garoppolo threw for 334 passing yards with a 65.9% completion percentage. He also helped the Rams score two touchdowns and was only intercepted once. When all of these numbers are crunched, his passer rating was estimated to be about 97.
Obviously, the backup quarterback can grow a lot more with the Rams. Garoppolo, Stafford, and McVay have Super Bowl experience which gives them the edge over other squads. Age and fatigue might just get the best of him through long stretches of the season. Hopefully, he reverts back to his star ways and balls out en route to a Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2026.
