Just a few months after landing in Charm City as a potential playoff boost, Tre’Davious White is heading right back to where it all began. The veteran cornerback has signed a one-year deal worth up to $6.8 million with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
White’s return to Buffalo isn’t exactly shocking, but the timing is worth raising an eyebrow (the draft is just under a week away). After Baltimore gave him a shot midseason to help patch a battered secondary, it seemed like there might be mutual interest in running it back. Apparently not.
To be fair, White’s stint with the Ravens wasn’t game-changing. But it also wasn’t a disaster. He played in seven regular-season games, notched 10 tackles, and broke up three passes while logging rotational snaps. He even saw meaningful action in the playoffs. Still, it looks like both sides are moving on.
White’s journey back to Buffalo is equal parts reunion and redemption arc. Drafted by the Bills in 2017, he was once a staple in one of the league’s most consistent secondaries. A two-time Pro Bowler and 2019 first-team All-Pro, White looked like the kind of corner you build a defense around. But after back-to-back brutal injuries—a torn ACL in 2021 followed by an Achilles tear in 2023—his career took a major turn.
Buffalo released him last offseason in a cap-saving move, and he ended up signing with the LA Rams. That didn’t last long either. After struggling early, White was traded to the Ravens for basically nothing (a late-round pick swap), where he served mostly as injury insurance. Baltimore’s secondary was ravaged by setbacks last year, and while White wasn’t a star, he gave them veteran depth when it mattered.
But now? He’s out, and the Ravens are now pivoting.
White’s departure leaves Baltimore with some serious cornerback decisions heading into the draft. Brandon Stephens is gone. Chidobe Awuzie is in, but unproven in purple. Nate Wiggins looks like a future star. T.J. Tampa has a lot to prove after not seeing the field as a rookie. It’s no secret the Ravens are eyeing more help at corner, and Eric DeCosta hasn’t exactly been subtle about it.
This draft should offer several names who can come in and help immediately. Benjamin Morrison (Notre Dame), Trey Amos (Ole Miss), Darien Porter (Iowa State) Shavon Revel (ECU), and Azareye'h Thomas (FSU) could all be logical fits for Chuck Pagano's secondary.
White, meanwhile, walks into a Buffalo room that’s just as thin, but far more familiar. He knows the system. He knows the coaches. He probably still knows where all the good wings are too. If he can stay healthy—which is a massive “if”—there’s a real chance he carves out a decent role again.
