Report: The Patriots Are Receiving Quarterback Trade Calls

The NFL Draft is a few weeks away, and some teams are looking to find their franchise quarterback of the future. We've seen teams hit the jackpot on quarterbacks in recent seasons, with C.J. Stroud and Jayden Daniels leading their teams to playoff success as rookies.

The teams selecting at the top of this year's draft are looking to follow that same blueprint, but one team is fielding calls for a quarterback on their roster as other clubs look to find a diamond in the rough.

According to Karen Guregian and Mark Daniels of masslive.com, the New England Patriots have received multiple trade calls for quarterback Joe Milton III.

The Patriots selected Milton in the sixth round last year. He spent time at Michigan and Tennessee in college, and impressed scouts with his size, athleticism and arm strength.

Milton led the Patriots to victory in the final game of the regular season last year, taking over for Drake Maye in a win over the Buffalo Bills. He threw for 241 yards and one touchdown, while adding another touchdown on the ground.

The Patriots kept Milton on the roster as an emergency quarterback for much of the season, as he played behind No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye and veteran Jacoby Brissett.

New England replaced Brissett with another veteran backup in Joshua Dobbs, likely leaving Milton as the third quarterback on the roster once again. Trading Milton would allow the Patriots to get an asset back, and it could give Milton the chance for more playing time elsewhere.

The Patriots traded Mac Jones last offseason, and he started seven games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024. Jones is now with the San Francisco 49ers, looking to revitalize his career in the same way Sam Darnold did during his stint with the team.

Drake Maye is the franchise quarterback in New England, but it appears that the Patriots are at least open to fielding trade offers for their other quarterback in the 2024 draft class.

Milton showed promise in his limited time on the field last season, and he could develop into a contributor if he gets the right opportunity. We'll see if that comes with the Patriots or with another NFL team.
