With Friday's addition of free-agent wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the Seattle Seahawks continued to retool their offense this offseason. Kupp is the latest dramatic change to a unit that has seen them trade quarterback Geno Smith and wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, release Tyler Lockett and replace all of them with Sam Darnold, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and now Kupp.
Along with the hiring of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, it is going to be a very different offense for the Seahawks than the one we saw in 2025.
Through all of that change, there is still one big issue that has not received anywhere near enough attention this offseason, and it is along the offensive line.
If they do not fix that throughout the rest of the offseason, and especially in the draft, none of these changes may end up having the desired impact.
The Seahawks offensive line has been a constant thorn in their sides for the better part of the past decade, and that was especially true in 2024. Pro Football Focus rated their offensive line behind every team in the league with the exception of the New England Patriots, while they ranked 28th in rushing yards per game and 17th in rushing yards per attempt. They also allowed 54 sacks in pass protection, tied for the third-most in the league (with Houston and behind only Chicago and Cleveland).
None of that is good enough, and they have not really done anything yet to address it in free agency or via trade.
While there are some potential starters still lurking in free agency, including tackle Cam Robinson and guards Teven Jenkins and Mekhi Becton, the draft needs to be their focus.
The Seahawks have ignored the offensive line at the top of the draft for the better part of the past decade, using just two first-or second-round picks on offensive lineman since 2017. Along with having the No. 18 overall pick. Seattle has three of the top 52 picks in the draft this year after acquiring the No. 52 overall pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers for Metcalf.
Free agency has focused on the skill positions. Now the draft has to focus on giving them enough time and room to make plays.
