Strengths

Athleticism: Jackson Slater is a surprisingly nimble and fluid mover in space. He has the change of direction ability to redirect and mirror rushers smoothly. When out in space, he has the redirection ability to nail targets on the move and wastes little time climbing to the second level.

Competitive Toughness: Slater frequently plays through the whistle, finishing defenders to the ground. When an assignment falls through or he wins a rep, he is quick to continue looking for work and assisting teammates.

Footwork: Slater mixes up his pass sets well and does a good job syncing up his feet with his strikes to shut down opposing rushers on contact.

Weaknesses

Play Strength: Slater anchors well enough against power, but he lacks the play strength to really drive and displace defenders in the run game. He frequently slips off of defenders or gets stalemated with ease against more powerful rushers.

Hand Placement: Slater's hand placement is spotty at best. He frequently mistimes his hands, leaving him open to losing outside.

Length: Slater has only average length, measuring in right at 33-inch arms.

Player Evaluation

It's easy to see the appeal of Jackson Slater. He's a great athlete for his 320-pound frame, and he moves well in the open field. It wasn't a huge jump in athleticism when he faced off against better competition at the Senior Bowl.

Overall, his hand placement and lack of play strength makes it hard to see anything above an average starter over time in the NFL, but his athleticism, technique, and competitive toughness give him a solid foundation to make it in the league. He's a pure zone guard/center player who can become a solid backup/spot starter at the NFL level.
