Seahawks evoke '90s nostalgia while unveiling throwback uniform

Ironically, the '90s were not a decade of prosperity for the Seahawks. They made the postseason once and only had two winning seasons during this timeframe. So the organization honoring this era seems like an odd choice. Nonetheless, Seahawks vice president of marketing and branding Jeff Richards claims this was when the franchise reversed its fortunes. 

"Probably the most significant reason is we felt like the championship DNA of this organization was sort of solidified," Richards said, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. "The foundation was solidified in the 90s with [former owner] Paul Allen buying the team and saying we're going to build a winner here." 

While Allen served as owner from 1997 to 2018, Seattle won its first Super Bowl title and made 13 postseason appearances. He also oversaw the construction of Lumen Field, which developed into one of the best home-field advantages in the NFL. Since it opened in 2002, the Seahawks have won 114 home games, the fourth most in the league.

Seattle is the latest organization to take advantage of the new alternate helmet rule. Expect more teams to follow, revealing jerseys that honor their history and evoke nostalgia for fans.
