Six NFL Head Coaches Have Now Been Fired

Now that Antonio Pierce has been fired by the Las Vegas Raiders, there are six NFL teams searching for a new head coach this offseason.

During the 2024 regular season, the New York Jets fired Robert Saleh after just five games. They replaced him with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. A few weeks later, the New Orleans Saints fired Dennis Allen in the middle of a seven-game losing streak. He was replaced by longtime special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi. The third and final coach fired mid-season was Matt Eberflus. The Chicago Bears had to move on after his Thanksgiving Day disaster against the Detroit Lions.

The New England Patriots didn't even wait for Black Monday to make a coaching change. They relieved Jerod Mayo of his duties shortly after defeating the Buffalo Bills in Week 18.

On Black Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars parted ways with the Doug Pederson. That move didn't surprise a single soul considering there were rumors about him being axed throughout the season. And then, as we mentioned before, the Raiders fired Pierce on Tuesday afternoon

While things can change in the next few days, here are six head-coaching vacancies in the NFL:

  • Chicago Bears
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Las Vegas Raiders
  • New England Patriots
  • New Orleans Saints
  • New York Jets

The Dallas Cowboys have not made a decision as to who'll be their head coach next season, but Mike McCarthy is still under contract for now. If they choose to go a different direction this offseason, that would open up yet another job.

The Bears have reportedly requested permission to speak with McCarthy, but the Cowboys have not yet responded. "America's Team" has exclusive negotiating rights with the veteran coach until Jan. 14.

Many analysts believe the Bears have the most talented roster on paper, but their recent history has been quite alarming. If they're not considered the No. 1 job on the market, that honor may go to the Patriots.

Speaking of the Patriots, they're going big-name hunting this offseason. They're linked to former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel and Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

It's going to be a wild NFL offseason, that's for sure.
