Steelers Make Questionable Admission On Starting Quarterback

With the Pittsburgh Steelers' decisions in recent years, you can't help but wonder... what's the plan?

Speaking to the media on Monday about the sport's biggest position of need, head coach Mike Tomlin talked about Pittsburgh's QB room and how he's comfortable moving forward with Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson if the team isn't able to add Aaron Rodgers.

"That's why we brought him back," Tomlin said, via ESPN's Brooke Pryor. "I'm comfortable with that. We've been there before. He's a very capable guy."

Steelers GM Omar Khan mostly seconded Tomlin's statements. Although he admitted it's a "safe assumption" that the team will add another veteran at quarterback even if Rodgers doesn't sign.

"We had a need at the position, as you guys know, and he was available and had an interest in coming back," Khan said of signing Rudolph to a two-year, $7.5 million deal. "Our experience with Mason's been relatively positive, so he made sense."

"Anytime you experience something with somebody, there's growth, and I acknowledge [it] in that regard," Tomlin added. "Certainly the way he smiled in the face of adversity and delivered for us was significant, but not that I was shocked by it or didn’t think it was within his framework or capabilities."

"We're excited about having him back, not only in terms of his talents but the guy that he is. He's a really good teammate. He's a really good football guy."

Aaron Rodgers spent some time throwing with Steelers wideout DK Metcalf this weekend as he continues to ponder his NFL future.

There seems to be no rush on either side to get a deal done. And if Pittsburgh waits until after the draft to sign the four-time MVP, they'll most likely be able to skirt the league's compensatory pick system.
