The Pittsburgh Steelers need a lot of help in their quarterback room.
The Steelers have two quarterbacks under contract. They have former backup Mason Rudolph, presently positioned to be QB1, and they have former Miami Dolphins draft pick Skylar Thompson as the backup.
The Steelers have reached out to former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but the free agent has been hanging around the offseason and has not given the Steelers an answer as to whether he is going to sign with them.
Or with another team.
Or march into retirement.
Even after being entertained at their facility two weeks ago, Rodgers still has not given them an answer.
For now, the Steelers have most of their eggs in Rodgers basket, so to speak. There have not been any rumors bouncing around the league from other free agents being linked to the Steelers. It has gotten to be so worrisome Steelers fans are hoping Pittsburgh drafts a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night.
And so ...
"A proud old-school organization, the Steelers have tumbled into a place where they are waiting on a diminished Aaron Rodgers," Yardbarker's Sam Robinson said. "Pittsburgh made an offer early in free agency but has not seen the polarizing talent commit.
"Meanwhile, the team's 2024 QB plan -- a Russell Wilson-Justin Fields setup -- is out, both passers heading to New York.''
The site points out that Carson Wentz remains available. And we have noted that I might make more sense to trade for the Falcons' Kirk Cousins than to keep hanging onto the hope that a 41-year-old Rodgers is going to rescue the franchise.
Many of the draft experts have projected the Steelers to pick Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 21 pick. Some have predicted Shedeur Sanders will fall to the Steelers and the Colorado product could be the pick.
We will see Thursday night if the Steelers draft a quarterback, and if they do, who it will be. Ideally, it will be someone who raises the grade for this QB room.
