Steelers 'Really Like' Top Quarterback In 2025 NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers draw closer to a deal with Aaron Rodgers with each passing day, and it appears that the only hurdle is Rodgers needing to make a decision on what team to join.

The Steelers have been clear about their interest in the four-time MVP, but one prominent sports media voice believes they are also interested in adding a rookie quarterback in the first round.

According to FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd, the Steelers are intrigued by former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, and they're considering selecting him in the first round.

“I talked to an NFL exec last night, very well-connected, and this is a keep your head on a swivel, Aaron Rodgers. I’m told the Steelers really like Jalen Milroe. Twenty-first pick, first round. So if Aaron signs with Pittsburgh, it’s gonna become Kirk Cousins,” Cowherd said on "The Herd."

"They’re taking a quarterback. If the 21st pick, Milroe’s not taken, Pittsburgh is leaning now and taking him."

Selecting Milroe would make a lot of sense for Pittsburgh, even after signing Rodgers. Rodgers was able to stay healthy last season, but he's still two years removed from a major Achilles injury. Rodgers will also turn 42 next season, and retirement is looming.

Finding the future of the quarterback position is something the Steelers will need to do with or without Rodgers, and if they feel confident in Milroe's talent, the choice to take him would align with their long-term goals.

Milroe is also one of the more raw quarterback prospects in the NFL Draft, much like Anthony Richardson after his career at Florida. Milroe has more experience and played in the College Football Playoff during his career, but adjusting to the NFL could take time.

His athleticism and ability to extend plays are attributes that the Steelers are rightfully interested in, and it makes a lot of sense that they would consider taking him at the end of the first round.

Milroe would be able to sit behind a four-time MVP if Rodgers signs with the Steelers, giving the young quarterback the chance to learn from an all-time great.

We'll see what the Steelers decide to do when the NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 24 in Green Bay - the city where Rodgers' former team plays.
