Steelers Wide Receiver Unexpectedly Lands on Injury Report

Starting wide receiver Van Jefferson unexpectedly landed on the Pittsburgh Steelers injury report for Wednesday with a quad injury.

Jefferson did not suffer an apparent injury during the Steelers’ Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders, but was not out there as the Steelers began their week of preparations for their Week 11 game against the Baltimore Ravens. His status going forward remains unclear.

Mike Williams would be the obvious choice to replace Jefferson if he is unable to play against the Ravens. The Steelers’ trade deadline acquisition played just nine snaps against the Commanders, but he scored the game-winning touchdown and head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that he expects Williams’ role to increase going forward. An injury to Jefferson may accelerate that process.

Third wide receiver Calvin Austin III returned to practice on Wednesday after being checked for a concussion during the Commanders game.
