The Lions Could Reportedly Make Surprising Offseason Trade

It sounds like the Detroit Lions could be eyeing a potential trade for one of their recent top picks.

With the 2025 NFL Draft just a few days away, the Lions have some needs they need to address and there's a chance wide receiver Jameson Williams could be on the trading block.

On Monday, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer listed out the positions that every team is looking to fill at this week's event — and he sees a scenario where Detroit could possibly take a look at parting ways with its former No. 12 pick.

"Receiver's another spot to consider," Breer said of the Lions. "With a fifth-year option decision coming on Jameson Williams, and some in NFL circles believing he could be traded."

"If you're on the fence on exercising the option, then you're less likely to give the guy a blockbuster extension," the insider wrote. "So, you have to consider moving him, simply because being willing to consider exercising it means he'll likely have value to someone else."

Williams' career has been a bit up-and-down to this point, but he's shown the ability to break games wide-open with his elite speed and penchant for taking the top off the defense.

Lions GM Brad Holmes said at this year's annual league meeting that the organization will "likely" pick up William's fifth-year option. However, nothing has materialized just yet.

"Look, it's heading that way that we are most likely going to be doing that," Holmes admitted to ESPN at the time. "He was a tremendous player for us last year. He's still scratching the surface. I do think he's got more in him as well, so I just think it just makes sense for us to do what we can to keep him around."

Last season was far and away the 24-year-old's best, posting career-highs in receptions (58), yards (1,001) and touchdowns (7) on the way to helping Detroit to the best record in franchise history.

It's hard to imagine a team wouldn't be willing to take a flier on him if Williams is available. But how much would they be OK with giving up to get him?
