A New Orleans Saints great has retired.
Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk has announced his retirement on Instagram.
Ramczyk, 30, has battled injuries throughout his career and missed the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury he suffered late in the 2023 season.
The 8-year veteran was part of the legendary 2017 Saints draft class that consisted of Marshon Lattimore, Marcus Williams, Alvin Kamara, Alex Anzalone, Trey Hendrickson, Al-Quadin Muhammad. All players would eventually be starters with multiple earning All-Pro honors.
With the Saints long-time tackle announcing his retirement, Alvin Kamara is now the only player drafted from the 2017 class left on the team.
In Ramczyk's eight-year career, he has earned First-team All-Pro (2019) and 2x Second-team All-Pro (2018, 2020).
Ramczyk signed a five-year $96 million contract with the Saints just before the start of the 2021 season. The All-Pro tackle would appear in 10 games in 2021 and all 16 games of the 2022 season. In 2023, he would appear in 12 games before suffering a knee injury and never play a down again.
Despite having to retire early, Ramczyk will go down as one of the greatest Saints tackles of all time and has earned his flowers with the franchise.
With Ramczyk officially retiring, New Orleans will have to look to fourth-year tackle Trevor Penning to take a step up for the 2025 season. Penning spent most of his time on the bench during his rookie season before getting a shot at starting in 2023. Penning would only last six games before being benched.
The start of the 2024 season remained rough for Penning before he would step up his play and his name would slowly stop being mentioned, which for a tackle, is a pretty good thing.
Over his eight-year NFL career, Ramczyk has given his all to New Orleans and he now leaves the game as one of the All-Time greats in Saints history.
