Week 5 is here, and so is another week of fantasy football. Familiar running back names are still producing while the top draft pick has vanished.
Despite focusing on PPR-style leagues, this list is filled with plenty of workhorses. The NFL is starting to undergo a change from pass-heavy offenses to more of a balanced, run-first offense. The RBs are thus benefiting.
Another week of football is here, and who are this week's top five running backs in fantasy football?
It seems no matter who's carrying the ball, someone is putting up massive numbers in San Francisco. Replacing the injured Christian McCaffrey, you'd think Jordan Mason was the full-time starter with the way he's been playing.
The RB5 through four weeks, Mason has been averaging 18.6 PPR points a game. Mason has seen minimal receiving work, targeted only seven times. To make up, Mason leads the league in rushing attempts (91 attempts), averaging 4.9 yards a carry.
The play calls in San Francisco always include a heavy dose of rushing attempts. Last year, McCaffrey tore Arizona's defense by averaging 45.2 PPR points in two games. Mason may not put up that many points, but should have a successful Sunday.
Alvin Kamara has been the golden example of consistency across his eight-year career. Kamara has been successful rushing and receiving and is finding the end zone this year.
Ranking third among backs in receptions (17) and tied for second in rushing attempts (80), Kamara is being featured in all aspects of the game. Kamara finds himself tied atop the NFL, finding the end zone six times this season.
Kamara is the focal point of this Saints offense and should be involved in all aspects, even against the Chiefs, who are allowing a league-best 14.6 PPR points to opposing backs.
Taylor has been the workhorse in Indianapolis for a few seasons now. His contract situation is now a thing of the past, and Taylor has become as consistent as ever for the Colts.
Finding the end zone four times this year, Taylor is the Colts' go-to back on each down. Averaging 19.2 PPR points (RB6), Taylor has seen back-to-back games of 20 carries.
Taylor is currently nursing an ankle sprain, and his status for Sunday is undecided. If Taylor is playing, expect a 20-plus point performance. If out, look for backup Trey Sermon to fill the role.
Derrick Henry may be in a new jersey this season, but this is the same running back from Tennessee. With Lamar Jackson to take some attention away, Henry has been dominating on the ground.
Henry leads the league with 480 rushing yards and 120 yards per game while he's found the end zone six times.
Last week, the Bengals allowed Chuba Hubbard to finish with 22.1 PPR points. Expect a similar finish from Henry this week.
The lone bright spot in an injury-riddled offense, Kyren Williams has been stellar for the Rams. As long as Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are on the sidelines, Williams will see the majority of the offensive work.
Coming off back-to-back games with at least 19 carries, Williams faces a league-average Packers defense against running backs. It's almost guaranteed at this point that Williams is going to score. Dating back to last season, Williams has scored in seven straight games.
Currently the RB4, owners of Williams should expect another massive day out of the Rams back.
