Vikings Advised to Make Trade During 2025 NFL Draft

While Minnesota Vikings fans may have trauma over past experiences in the NFL Draft, this year could provide a benefit.

Entering the 2025 NFL Draft, Minnesota has only four picks, with one in the first round, one in the third round, one in the fifth round, and one in the sixth round. The Vikings lost their second-round, third-round, and fourth-round picks last season to move up and select Dallas Turner. Their sixth-round and seventh-round picks were sent to the Cleveland Browns in 2023 as part of the Za'Darius Smith trade.

Minnesota is in a position where the team could work with another team on a trade for additional picks.

Bleacher Report writer Gary Davenport wrote an article on six trades that could happen during the 2025 NFL Draft. Davenport had the Vikings and Buffalo Bills collaborating on a deal that would move the Bills up in the first round and the Vikings to move back in the round.

“The Vikings have more than a few needs of their own—especially in the defensive backfield. But Minnesota also (as things stand now) has just four picks in the 2025 draft.”

“Sliding back a handful of spots makes sense for the Vikes. They could add some badly-needed draft capital and still land a player like Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison or teammate Xavier Watts.”

The interior defensive line and cornerbacks have been identified as two positions of need for Minnesota this offseason. If the Vikings remain at four picks, it would be the lowest amount in franchise history, with five selections done twice in 2008 and 2009.

This trade for Minnesota is a win-win for them, as they pick up an extra pick while still securing a role player six picks later in the draft.
