The Los Angeles Rams are getting ready to usher in a new era after signing Davante Adams to a two-year contract and parting ways with franchise icon Cooper Kupp this offseason.

After failing to find a trade partner, the Rams released Kupp as a post-June 1 cut that will free up $15 million in cap space.

L.A. made the difficult decision to move on from the star wide receiver due to recent injury-plagued seasons and a drop in production. He has since signed a three-year, $45 million contract with his hometown Seattle Seahawks in free agency.

Kupp has not made the move to Washington yet and got to participate in one final workout with his former Rams teammates before he begins a new chapter, via NFL reporter Dov Kleiman:

Among those to say goodbye to Kupp were Puka Nacua, Matthew Stafford and Jordan Whittington, along with former Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth.

It’s difficult to state how important Kupp has been to the Rams organization since they drafted him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Kupp solidified himself as one of the greatest wide receivers in franchise history behind some incredible seasons, including 2021 when he won the receiving triple crown and helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI en route to MVP honors.

Beyond his contributions on the field, Kupp served as an important leader and mentor in the locker room. His presence will be missed, but his impact should continue being felt for years to come.

Cooper Kupp ‘looking forward’ to playing Rams with Seahawks

Kupp remaining in the NFC West means the Rams will have to face him twice a season. “Yeah, I am. I am looking forward to it,” Kupp answered when asked if he is excited to play his old team.

“That didn’t play into the decision to come here, but it was a nice little thing on the side to be able to go against those guys. So much respect for the coaching staff, the way that they handle things down there, the players down there.

“I am excited about it, though It’s going to be a really cool thing. When that time comes, it’ll just be football at that point. But I am looking forward to it.”
