With six teams on a bye, some fantasy managers need to get creative in order to make the playoffs. These players remain available in most leagues and should be considered top targets.
1. Brandin Cooks, WR, Dallas Cowboys (rostered in 10% of Yahoo leagues)
After missing the last seven games with a knee injury, Cooks returned to the lineup with three catches for 16 yards and a touchdown on a team-high seven targets on Thanksgiving Day. Modest numbers to be sure but not entirely unexpected given his long absence.
Top receiver CeeDee Lamb wasn’t much better with two catches for 39 yards against the Giants, but he re-aggravated a shoulder injury in the third quarter that kept him out for the rest of the game. He’s expected to be fine for Monday night’s game against the Bengals, but Cooks should also improve.
Cooks may not be the same player that recorded six 1,000 yard seasons from 2015-21, but his eight touchdowns were second-most on the team in 2023. He finished last season with a touchdown in each of the Cowboys’ last three games and could do the same with five games to play in 2024.
2. Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers (rostered in 50% of Yahoo leagues)
Like Cooks, Freiermuth led his team with seven targets in Week 13, finishing with a season-high 68 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati. It’s the second time in as many weeks Freiermuth has set a season mark in yardage after going for 58 yards against Cleveland in Week 12.
Freiermuth appears to be getting hot at just the right time. This week he’ll get another shot at a Browns team that allows the eighth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends.
3. Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers (rostered in 5% of Yahoo leagues)
Not only did the 49ers lose Christian McCaffrey to a knee injury, but the team placed running back Jordan Mason on the IR with a high-ankle sprain on Monday. That leaves Guerendo as the team’s next best option against the Bears in Week 14.
Guerendo had four carries for 19 yards against the Bills on Sunday night. He had his best game against the Cowboys in Week 8 with 14 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown (19.2 fantasy points).
At six-feet-tall and 221 pounds, Guerendo is bigger than both Mason and McCaffrey and with 4.33 speed, he’s also faster. He leads the team with 5.9 yards per carry on 42 attempts and his 76-yard run against the Seahawks in Week 6 is the year’s longest among San Francisco running backs.

Obviously, pinning your fantasy hopes and dreams on a fourth-round rookie isn’t ideal, especially with the playoff spots on the line, but with running backs like Derrick Henry, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jonathan Taylor all on byes, Guerendo holds tremendous value this week.
Best of luck to all fantasy players. Please check out our post-waiver suggestions later this week.
