Why Would Bills Rest Josh Allen Now?

The Buffalo Bills will face the final two weeks of the regular season with nothing to play for ... well, aside from trying to clinch the No. 2 seed for the playoffs - which could mark an enormous edge.

So first, let's deal with the inane idea that 12-3 Buffalo "should rest starters like Josh Allen'' in today's meeting with the Jets.

The 15-1 Chiefs have the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Bills remain in good shape for the No. 2 seed but 11-5 Baltimore is chasing - and would own a tiebreaker with the Ravens.

Break that tie today and Buffalo clinches the No. 2 spot.

So that's the end of that when it comes to "resting'' for the playoffs, with one source close to the situation calling the opposite argument "really stupid.''

Now, given that the Bills have gotten themselves into such a strong position for the postseason, attention might turn to the playoffs before taking care of business against the New York Jets and New England Patriots.

For head coach Sean McDermott, juggling the bigger picture of the playoffs and staying the course with what's in front of his team has been his sole focus.

“The way the media covers the NFL these days, the big picture is spelled out rather well for the guys,” McDermott said. “Our focus has to be on the minute-to-minute game-to-game focus more than anything, and that's the Jets this weekend and us playing as good of football as we can play. So that's been the approach all season long, is preparing like we need to and then getting ourselves in the right headspace mentally to play our best football one week at a time so that's been rather consistent for us.”

So the focus remains on the New York Jets, and the Bills have a chance to sweep their AFC East rivals, while Buffalo has a chance to remain undefeated at home this season (currently 7-0).

So the big carrot that was dangling in front of the Bills is now gone, but the focus must remain for the team to hit the playoffs in good form.

Because as we know, the NFL is a week-to-week business, and while the Bills have been one of the form teams in the league, once the playoffs roll around, it only takes one bad performance, and the season ends.

So the message remains simple for the Bills - be where your feet are. And for banged-up Josh Allen and company? Be on the field today registering a win.
