Devils Trade for Penguins Depth Forward

NEWARK—According to multiple reports, the New Jersey Devils trade a third-round pick and unspecified minor league players in exchange for Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Cody Glass.

Glass (25), is a former first-round, sixth overall pick by the Vegas Golden Knights. He was involved in a one-for-one trade with the Nashville Predators in exchange for Nolan Patrick in 2021. Glass was later traded to the Penguins in August 2024.

The Devils were in the market for a depth center. Glass is a sure upgrade over Justin Dowling, who has played 42 games for New Jersey this season, scoring two goals and five points in that span.

Glass isn’t an offensive stalwart by any means. In 51 games this season, Glass has registered four goals and 15 points with the Penguins.

In his best offensive season, Glass tallied 14 goals and 35 points in 2022-23 skating for the Predators.

However, Glass boasts plus defensive metrics that make him a worth-while fourth-line center. Glass has also been strong in the face-off dot, winning 52.7% of his draws this season.

Glass is the Devils’ second NHL Trade Deadline acquisition after New Jersey acquired Brian Dumoulin on Thursday.

The soon 26-year-old is in the final year of a two-year contract with a $2.5 million average annual value. He will be a restricted free-agent when his deal expires.
