Elias Pettersson's Agent Breaks His Silence on Canucks Exploring Possible Offseason Trade

Rumors have been swirling that the Canucks could trade Elias Pettersson this offseason, and his agent has finally spoken up about the situation.

The Canucks had a trying 2024-25 season. Trade rumors, internal strife, and under-performing superstars caused the club to not make the playoffs, leading to even more uncertainty in the face of a long offseason.

The biggest question mark, however, is Elias Pettersson, as he is the club's top-paid player and he has had trade rumors circling him all season.

Pettersson's representative, J.P. Barry, made a response to the increasing rumors via a recent interview with the 'Donnie and Dhali Show'.

'Not really surprised,' Barry said. 'It's a business.'

Pettersson has a full no-move clause that kicks in after free agency period opens

Pettersson has no trade protection at this time with seven years left on his current deal, but all that will change when the 2025-26 season begins and he retains a full no-move clause, which means that the Canucks will need to act quickly if they want to make any type of trade involving their star forward.

Pettersson only managed to get 45 points (15 goals, 30 assists) in his 64 games played, which was far below what is expected of a player of his caliber.

His drop-off is even more notable compared to his 102-point campaign in 2022-23 and 89-point season in 2023-24.

If the Canucks lose another foundation player like Brock Boeser, they will need Pettersson to bounce back in a big way.

Whether staying in Vancouver or benefiting from a new start elsewhere is in the cards, a bounce back in 2025-26 could prove to be the difference.
