Flames Defeat Sharks 5-2 & Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

On Sunday (Apr. 13), the Calgary Flames looked to pick up a win over the San Jose Sharks in hopes of keeping their playoff dreams alive. In what was a strong performance, the Flames were able to pick up a 5-2 victory over the struggling Sharks. Here is a brief recap of the game.

Game Recap

The Sharks got things going in the first period as Tyler Toffoli picked up his 30th goal of the season against his former team, with Noah Gregor and Lucas Carlsson picking up the assists. Mackenzie Weegar responded with his eighth goal of the season with assists from Adam Klapka and Jonathan Huberdeau, and shortly after, Klapka picked up a goal with assists from Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri, as the Flames took a 2-1 lead into the second period.

The Sharks responded early in the second period, tying the game 2-2 on a goal from Jan Rutta, with Toffoli and William Eklund picking up the assists as the two teams headed into the third period tied at two. Yegor Sharangovich got his team going early, giving the Flames a 3-2 lead with assists from Morgan Frost and Brayden Pachal. Matt Coronato picked up his 24th goal of the season to give the Flames a 4-2 lead, and Sharangovich sealed the deal with his second of the night to give the Flames a 5-2 win.

Looking Forward

The Sharks are back in action on Monday (Apr. 13) when they face the Vancouver Canucks, while the Flames will look to keep their playoff hopes alive against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday (Apr. 15).
