The Carolina Hurricanes came into the final weekend of the regular season looking to snap a four-game skid against the New York Rangers. After going 0-3-1 on their road trip, the hope was that home cooking could be the cure they needed. A Saturday afternoon game (April 12) was the first of a back-to-back set to finish the regular season home schedule. Also, the Hurricanes had the chance to sweep the Rangers and eliminate them from the playoffs. As the final horn sounded, they did just that winning 7-3.

Heads Up, 7-Up for the Hurricanes

Right from the jump, the game was all Hurricanes as they ended up scoring seven goals on Igor Sheshterkin en route to their 31st win at home. The player who stood out the most for the Hurricanes in this game was Seth Jarvis who had a three-point day. His first point came in the first period as the secondary assist to the Jalen Chatfield goal to make it a 1-0 lead. Over six minutes later, he had a multipoint first period as he scored his 32nd goal of the season after some nifty passing from Sebastian Aho and Jackson Blake to double the lead. The first line of Jarvis, Aho, and Blake are forming a sneaky trio going into the 2025 NHL Playoffs. Those three could do some damage for the Hurricanes from the first round and hopefully more.

Jarvis’ third point of the game came in the second period as the primary assist to Blake’s 17th goal of the season making it a 3-0 lead just two minutes into the middle frame. Jarvis’ assist put him at 34 on the season along with his 32 goals giving him 66 with three games left. Blake ended up having a multipoint game as well with a goal and assist.

Jordan Staal had a multipoint game as well after scoring a goal early in the third period to make it a 5-1 game at the time. Then he was able to get the assist for the Jordan Martinook empty net goal to ice the game 6-3 and give him two points on the night. Logan Stankoven and Mark Jankowski keep scoring for their new team netting their 14th and 12th goals of the season respectively.

The Hurricanes won their 31st game at home, giving them a 31-8-1 record at the Lenovo Center, tying a franchise record. They take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday, April 13 to finish the regular season home schedule and the second game of the back-to-back. Carolina has a chance to set a new home win total. Furthermore, the win gave them a record of 47-27-5 (99 points) with three games left before the start of the 2025 NHL Playoffs. Will they be able to get 50 wins before it’s all said and done?

One More at Home Before Playoffs

The Hurricanes (47-27-5) take on the Maple Leafs (48-26-4) Sunday, April 13 for the last home game of the regular season. The puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern. Fans can watch the game at FanDuel Sports Network South and on 99.9 The Fan for the radio. Regarding the Rangers, they take on the Florida Panthers in Sunrise at 7 p.m. Eastern on Monday, April 14. They are officially eliminated from the playoffs with only a handful of games remaining.
