Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has won his second-straight William M. Jennings Trophy.
The Jennings is awarded to the goalie or goalies who played for the team with the fewest goals against in the regular season (25 game minimum.) The Jets allowed 191 and secured the award Wednesday evening by wrapping up their schedule with a 2-1 overtime win against the Anaheim Ducks.
Hellebuyck reached a new level of dominance this season, posting a 47-12-3 record, 2.00 goals against average (GAA,) .925 save percentage (SV%,) eight shutouts, and 41.6 goals saved above expected (GSAx.) The 31-year-old should easily win his second-straight and third-career Vezina Trophy and is also getting serious chatter to be the first Hart Memorial Trophy-winning goalie since Carey Price in 2015.

Like was the case last season — where Hellebuyck won the first Jennings in Jets’ franchise history and played in a tandem with Laurent Brossoit — the Jets’ backup is not included in the award due to not reaching the 25-game minimum. Despite the technicality, Eric Comrie had a nice season in his own right in relief of Hellebuyck, posting a 9-10-1 record, 2.39 GAA, .914 SV%, two shutouts, and 7.8 GSAx in 20 starts. The organization acknowledged his contributions in a social media post.
Hellebuyck is the first goalie to capture the Jennings in consecutive seasons since Martin Brodeur captured two of his five in 2003 and 2004.
Hellebuyck and the Jets, who won the Presidents’ Trophy for the first time in franchise history and also captured a franchise-high 116 points, will begin their Round 1 Stanley Cup Playoff series against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, April 19 at 5 p.m. CT.
