Calling the start Logan Couture's 2015 campaign "frustrating" is probably an understatement at this point.
The San Jose Sharks announced Friday morning that the star forward underwent surgery when it was discovered that there was arterial bleeding in his right thigh, stemming from an injury he sustained in Wednesday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson said in the statement:
“In Wednesday night’s game in Edmonton, Logan suffered trauma to his right thigh, creating a Charley-horse effect which prohibited him from returning to the game.
"Upon returning to San Jose, it was discovered that there was a small arterial bleed in the area. Last night, Logan underwent a successful procedure in San Jose to close the artery and is expected to make a full recovery.
"At this time, there is no projected time frame for his return to the ice but we do not expect this to be a long-term recovery."
This scary incident came in just the fifth period of hockey that Couture had played since October. He was sidelined at the start of the season after sustaining a right ankle injury during practice. Per Wilson, the trauma to the thigh was "completely unrelated" to the ankle injury.
No. 39 took to social media Friday morning following the announcement to thank fans for their ongoing support:
It has been a very difficult 4 month stretch personally. Really just a quick thanks to everyone for the support through this, means a lot.

Couture tallied one assist in his first game back on the ice against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night. He has registered two assists for two points in five games played this season.
