The Minnesota Wild could punch their ticket to the postseason Tuesday night as they host the Anaheim Ducks in their final game of the regular season.
If the Wild don't win, the door could remain open for the Calgary Flames to sneak into the playoffs. That said, the latest playoff odds from MoneyPuck give Minnesota a 97.7% to make the playoffs, while the Flames are clinging to life at just 13.8%.
So how do the Wild clinch a playoff spot Tuesday night? It's pretty simple, and there are three ways it could happen.
Any of them will get the job done.
Games for the Wild and the Blues begin at 7 p.m. CT, and the Flames drop the puck at 8 p.m. CT.
The Blues are 1-2 this season against Utah. The Flames are 0-2-1 with two shutout losses to Vegas. Meanwhile, the Wild are 2-0 against the Ducks, having beaten them 5-1 and 5-2, respectively.
While the playoffs look like a lock for the Wild, it'll be interesting to see if they wind up with the No. 7 or No. 8 seed. The No. 8 seed is going to have to face No. 1 Winnipeg, which leads the NHL with 114 points. The No. 7 seed will play No. 2 Vegas (107 points).
Minnesota is 0-2-1 against Winnipeg while being outscored 11-2. On the flip side, the Wild are 0-3 against Vegas, having been outscored 12-4.
