New Number, Who This? Blackhawks' New Player Numbers Unveiled

The Chicago Blackhawks are in waiting mode until the prospect tournament and training camp festivities begin to pick up steam in August. However, on a quiet Friday afternoon, the team released some new information. All the Blackhawks newcomers have their new jersey numbers for the upcoming season. In addition, some returning players will don a new look in 2024-25. 

For the new numbers, the Blackhawks handed out a total of nine new numbers to the new additions. They are as follows:

Notably, Teuvo Teravainen will once again wear #86 with the Blackhawks. As for everyone else, there is quite the diverse set of numbers chosen by the group. 

In addition to the new arrivals, a number of roster players and prospects have changed their numbers. Some of those changes are below:

Roster Players with New Numbers

Prospects Jalen Luypen, Paul Ludwinski, and Gavin Hayes will wear #43, #90, and #92, respectively. 

Notably, the changes generate a lot of intrigue. Anderson's change was likely so Craig Smith could wear #15, as he has done for a large part of his career. In addition, Levshunov gets something similar to his college number (5) and Kevin Korchinski will don his WHL number (14). Finally, Reichel will wear #73, which he wore with Germany in the IIHF World Championships. This also frees up #27 for a possible retirement in wake of Jeremy Roenick's election to the Hockey Hall of Fame. 

A lot of this is speculation regarding Roenick, but it is something to watch out for.

New numbers are always fun, and with a huge influx of new players, the announcement did not disappoint. Now, we wait for preseason hockey come September.
