FanDuel remains the best sportsbook for NHL props, as they give us the chance to bet on alternate shots lines. That's exactly what we plan to do tonight. We're opting for a few guys at a higher number tonight, and moving one player down to a safer number and combining with him another shooter.
Let's start this week in the NHL right with some winning SOG bets.
Tage Thompson has been on fire, and we have to follow the attempts and SOG numbers that he's been putting up.
Over the past three games, Thompson has 20 SOG on 33 attempts. He's gone for 4+ in all three and finished with eight SOG in back-to-back contests.
Detroit is a wonderful shot target, having allowed 33.9 shots per game this season, and Thompson finished with five SOG in two of four games against the Red Wings last year. By all means, look to his standard over/under at 2.5, or put a full unit on him getting 4+. I like this half-unit split on both four and five.
Whenever Ovechkin is across a team struggling with penalties, we have to look his way for shots. Ovi has 17 power play shots already, and Carolina has allowed the eighth-most power plays this season. We bump Ovi down to three only because the Canes are a tight team to shots. He looks solid at the 3.5, but given he'd have to be a parlay piece anyway, why not move him down and look in the same game for his partner.
Ovi has 3+ shots in eight of nine games this year and averaged 3.8 shots/game in four meetings against Carolina last season.
Andrei Svechnikov looks to be in a great spot tonight for shots. He's recorded 3+ in six of his last seven, and that includes 5+ shots in four of six. Washington is not the tight team to shots we remember from last year, allowing 32.6 shots per game, a number that goes up to 37/game on the road, a location Washington has been five times this season.
At -111, this is a strong combo.
Buffalo is a team we have to target with shots every night, they're seeing nearly 35 per game against them, and being at home hasn't made them much tighter (33.25 shots allowed per game in Buffalo).
Raymond catches the eye here at plus-money. He's over this 2.5 total in four of eight this season, which isn't amazing, but he just had himself a 7-SOG outing against Minnesota on ten attempts. The hope would be he carries forth that momentum tonight. In four games against Buffalo last season, Raymond went over 2.5 shots three times, averaging 3.8 shots/game.
You may have caught on to a theme from today, but I'm growing a bit tired of having to parlay two guys together at a 2.5 line. Tarasenko looks like solid at 4+ shots, so we opt for the +190 price on the St. Louis Blues shooter this evening.
The Kings are allowing 31.1 shots per game this year and have allowed the third-most power play opportunities per game, which suits Tarasenko's game. He's leading St. Louis in power play shots and has gone for 4+ shots in three of seven this year. He's averaging 6.5 attempts per game over his last four, and in three games against Los Angeles last season, Tarasenko averaged 4.7 shots/game, going for 5+ shots twice.
Again, consider him at the 2.5 line with something else, perhaps Tage Thompson at 2.5, I like the value here on him reaching four.
Enjoy Monday on the ice, let's start this week strong!
