The Edmonton Oilers announced Saturday that the club has signed defenseman Ty Emberson to a two-year contract extension that carries a $1.3-million annual average value.

Through 76 appearances with the Oilers this season, Emberson scored twice and added 11 assists for 13 points coupled with 18 penalty minutes and a minus-five rating while averaging more than 15 minutes of ice time per game. The 24-year-old native of Eau Claire, Wis., was skating in his first season with the Oilers following an August deal in which he was acquired from the Pacific Division rival San Jose Sharks in exchange for fellow defenseman Cody Ceci plus a third-round selection in the upcoming NHL Draft.

In all, through 106 NHL contests between the Sharks and Oilers, Emberson has totaled three goals and 20 assists for 23 career points. Emberson was originally chosen in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the former Arizona Coyotes. Beyond his time in the NHL, Emberson has also spent part of three seasons in the minors where through 132 AHL appearances he has registered 12 goals and 27 assists for 39 points.

A graduate of the NCAA’s Wisconsin Badgers, Emberson competed with the United States at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 World Championship where through seven games he collected four points alongside 12 penalty minutes and a plus-five mark en route to a silver-medal victory. Emberson also joined the United States at the 2020 World Juniors.

For the Oilers, the club closed out the season with a 48-29-5 record and 101 points to rank third place in the Pacific Division and set up an opening round series in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings. The Oilers have defeated the Kings in each of the past three postseasons. Game 1 of the latest matchup comes Monday in Los Angeles.
